Relationship of Plant diseases and Micronutrients

Micronutrients play an important role in the resistance mechanisms of plants against pathogens, and increase in micro-nutrient concentrations in soils significantly prevent pathogenic infections.

Plant micronutrients and plant diseases relation

Boron Micronutrient

Boron micronutrient plays a main role in the synthesis of defensive compounds in plant tissues which hinder the fungal attachment to the host plant therefore avoiding the infections.

Boron Micronutrient and fusarium rot

Boron application and amendment to the crops by soil application reduces soil borne plant fungal diseases like Fusarium wilt, Plasmodiophora wilt, and Verticillium wilts on various plants. Boron deficient plants are susceptible to a wide range of diseases such as an ergot, fusarium wilt, powdery mildew and rust.

Manganese Micronutrient

Manganese micronutrient in the plant system increases the production of soluble phenols, which play a vital role in plant resistance mechanisms against fungal pathogens. Pectin methyl esterase enzyme required by any pathogenic organism to penetrate in to plant cell walls is inhibited by supplementing the plants with Manganese nutrient.

Manganese nutrient and Plant diseases

Manganese micronutrient inhibits the production of aminopeptidase enzyme which are very much necessary to supply amino acids to pathogens. Manganese nutrient can be applied on foliar application and soil application. Manganese nutrient is available as single nutrient [EDTA form] product as well in mixture along with other micronutrients.

Zinc Micronutrient [Zn]

Zinc Micronutrient [Zn] in plants is important in superoxide production, which is responsible for a cascade of plant defense pathways against fungal and bacterial pathogens. Zinc acts as a cofactor of plant defense enzymes and it also affects membrane stability of plant cell making strong inhibiting pathogen entry in to the plant cell.

Zinc nutrient and plant disease

Zinc Micronutrient deficiency increases Fusarium and Rhizoctonia wilts. Zinc nutrient can be applied on foliar application and soil application. Zinc nutrient is available as single nutrient [EDTA form] product as well in mixture along with other micronutrients.

Copper Micronutrients [Cu]

Copper (Cu) is an essential micronutrient for plants growth and development. Cu nutrient in the plant system increases cuticle thickness by lignin formation and acts as barrier for infections by fungal and bacterial pathogens.

Copper, Chlorine and Molybdenum and plant diseases

Copper nutrient plays a very important role in polyphenol oxidase activity; produces some phytoalexins and other plant anti-pathogenic molecules. Phytoalexins are antimicrobial compounds counter produced by plants when pathogens attack the plant. Copper nutrient can be applied on foliar application and soil application. Copper nutrient is available as single nutrient [EDTA form] product as well in mixture along with other micronutrients.

Iron Micronutrient [Fe]

Iron micronutrient [Fe] in the soil produces siderophores in association with rhizosphere microorganisms as antagonistic effect leading to the limitation of the growth of parasitic fungus in the soil.

Iron nutrient and Plant diseases

Fe micronutrient in plants have positive correlation with defense mechanism against plant pathogenic microorganisms. Iron nutrient can be applied on foliar application and soil application. Iron nutrient is available as single nutrient [EDTA form] product as well in mixture along with other micronutrients.

Chlorine Micronutrient [Cl]

Chlorine (Cl) is an essential micronutrient, which is required in very small amounts for plant growth and development. Cl might interact with other nutrients like manganese and said Cl has got role in with NO3 absorption and regulates the rhizosphere root zone pH. Regulated pH may increase the availability of manganese for the plant and increase pathogen tolerance. Chlorine nutrient can be applied on foliar application and soil application. Chlorine nutrient is available in mixture along with other micronutrients.

Molybdenum Micronutrient [Mo]

Molybdenum Micronutrient [Mo] increases photosynthetic pigments leading to an increase in carbohydrate polysaccharides of the plant cell wall such as cellulose, hemicellulose and pectin that are barriers against plant pathogens. Molybdenum Micronutrient [Mo] also produces phenolic compounds which are associated with carbohydrates that have important role in plant defense mechanisms. Molybdenum nutrient can be applied on foliar application and soil application. Molybdenum nutrient is available in mixture along with other micronutrients.

Micronutrients are available for both foliar application and soil application. They are available in mixtures.
