The nymphs and adult mealy bugs suck sap from leaves causing withering and yellowing of leaves. Leaves become crinkled and twisted, with stunted growth of plants which look bushy. They also damage roots, stems, flowers and fruits. They secrete honeydew on which sooty mould develops. Shedding of flowers, reduced fruit set, shedding of young fruits occurs. Defoliation under heavy infestation. Sooty mould attracts ants, which indirectly protect mealybugs from natural enemies. Mealybugs are more in plants which are more succulents with fleshy stems. Effectively control mealybugs in crop plants.
