Seed treatment to avoid Damping off disease and develop healthy & quality seedlings
Damping off is a very serious soil-borne fungal disease which is more common in the nursery of almost all vegetable crops including Tomato, Brinjal, Chilli, Capsicum, Cabbage, Cauliflower, etc. The seeds sown in the soil will be killed before or after germination because of damping off incidence in the soil.
It is very well known that prevention is better than cure, hence to avoid the incidence of damping off disease in the nursery, the best remedy is to go for seed treatment before sowing the seeds.
Seed treatment with bioagents like Trichoderma sp (Multiplex Nisarga 10gm/lit or Ecoderma 10gm/lit or Alderm @ 2-3 ml/Lit) will give effective control against damping off disease as well as all kinds of seed borne and soil borne disease.
Procedure: Mix 100gm of Trichoderma in 10 lit of water, make a solution and dip the seeds for 10-15 minutes. Then shade dry the seeds for 20-30 minutes and then go for sowing the seeds. This may avoid the incidence of Damping off disease as well as other soil borne diseases.
Or
Mix 100gm of Trichoderma in 1 lit of water, make a paste and smear in such a way that it all the seeds are equally coated with the paste. Then shade dry for 20-30 minutes and then go for sowing the seeds. This may avoid the incidence of Damping off disease as well as other soil borne diseases.
Note:
- If seed treatment is not done, you can even go for seedling dip treatment using the above products to avoid damping off and other soil borne diseases after transplanting
- The seed treatment or seedling treatment will not only avoid damping off and other diseases, but also provide resistance to the plants against stress, makes the plants grow healthy, yield higher.
