Planofix (Alpha Naphthyl Acetic Acid 4.5% SL) by Bayer Crop Science India is an aqueous plant growth regulator solution used to induce flowering, prevent the shedding of buds, flowers, and unripe fruits, and enlarge fruit size. It effectively improves fruit retention and uniformity in crops such as pineapple, tomato, chilli, mango, cotton, and grapes, helping the plant hold on to more of its flowers and fruit through to harvest. By inhibiting the natural production of ethylene, the hormone responsible for the abscission layer that causes flower, bud, and fruit drops. Planofix increases both the quantity and quality of yield. It is applied as a foliar spray, timed to each crop's flowering or fruit-development stage, in recommended crops.
Alpha-Naphthyl Acetic Acid (NAA)
Mode of Action: Planofix's NAA, inhibits the natural production of ethylene gas in plants. Ethylene is the plant hormone responsible for initiating the abscission layer that causes flowers, buds, and unripe fruits to shed. By suppressing ethylene production, Planofix disrupts the formation of this layer and prevents the natural shedding process, while also enlarging fruit size and improving fruit quality.
Time of Application: Flowering Stage / Fruit Development Stage / Pre-Harvest Stage (crop-dependent)
Crops |
Application Method |
Dosage |
Growth Stage/Time of Application |
Pineapple (Induce Flowering & Uniform Growth) |
Pour/Foliar Application |
1 ml in 4.5 L water |
Pour just before the expected flowering date |
Pineapple (Increase Fruit Size) |
Foliar Spray |
10 ml in 4.5 L water |
Wet the whole fruit, avoiding spray drift onto young crop |
Pineapple (Delay Maturity) |
Foliar Spray |
10 ml in 4.5 L water |
Wet the whole fruit, 2 weeks before harvest |
Tomato |
Foliar Spray |
180 ml/acre in 180 L water/acre |
At the time of flowering (2 applications) |
Chilli |
Foliar Spray |
40 ml/acre in 180 L water/acre |
1st Spray: during flowering; 2nd Spray: 20–30 days after the 1st spray |
Mango |
Foliar Spray |
5.3–8.8 ml in 12.2 L water |
1st Spray: when tender fruits are pea-sized; 2nd Spray: for malformation control, ~3 months before flowering (before fruit bud differentiation) |
Cotton |
Foliar Spray |
89–178 ml/acre in 400 L water/acre |
As per general crop practice for square/boll retention |
Grapes |
Foliar Spray |
2 ml in 49 L water |
1st Spray: at pruning; 2nd Spray: when the flowering shoot appears; additional spray on matured branches 10–15 days before harvest to control berry drop |
Method of Application: Foliar Spray, using a hand-operated, diesel-power-operated, or foot-operated sprayer. Spray thoroughly wet the plants, to the point of run-off.
Best Time to Spray: Spray during the cool part of the day, avoiding excessively dry, hot conditions; time the application to the crop-specific growth stage listed above.
Consult an agronomist before tank-mixing with other fertilizers, insecticides, or fungicides.
Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place away from direct sunlight and moisture. Keep the product in its original sealed container.
" For best results, time Planofix application precisely to the crop's flowering, fruit-development, or pre-harvest stage as specified on the label, and spray to the point of run-off for thorough coverage. In multi-spray crops like chilli, mango, and grapes, keep to the recommended interval between sprays for consistent flower and fruit retention."–BigHaat Agronomy Expert
