Mode of Action

Mode of Action: The Ryanodine Receptor

Chlorantraniliprole has a highly specific and novel mode of action that targets the insect's muscular system rather than its nervous system.

Receptor Binding: When the insect ingests or comes into contact with the treated plant, the chemical binds to ryanodine receptors (RyRs). These are specialized ion channels located in the sarcoplasmic reticulum of the insect's muscle cells.

Calcium Depletion: Binding to this receptor locks the calcium channels in an "open" state. This causes an uncontrolled and massive release of stored calcium ions into the muscle cytoplasm.

Paralysis and Death: Because muscles rely on precise calcium regulation to contract and relax, this flood of calcium causes continuous muscle contraction. The insect immediately stops feeding, becomes paralyzed, and typically dies within a few days.

Key Features & Benefits

Highly Selective: While it is lethal to insects, CORSET has a very low affinity for mammalian ryanodine receptors. This makes it highly toxic to pests but generally safe for humans, mammals, and beneficial insects (like bees and natural predators) when used correctly.

Systemic and Translaminar: It can move through the plant's vascular system (systemic) and across leaf tissues (translaminar), providing comprehensive protection even to parts of the plant that weren't directly sprayed.

Fast-Acting: Insects stop feeding almost immediately upon ingestion, preventing further crop damage even before the insect officially dies.

Long-Lasting: It provides extended residual protection against target pests.

CORSET is primarily used to control Lepidopteran pests (caterpillars, borers, and moths) but is also effective against some beetles, termites, and true bugs.
